Swedish wild boar hunting. Part 1.

As we move into December on the calendar, it stands out with bright red colors. Wild boar hunting in Sweden. Sweden isn’t that far for Norway it may seem, but after a twelve hour drive due to extreme weather, we arrived in the southern part of Sweden. This is probably the best wild boar and doe area in Scandinavia, and we were pretty eager to get out of a smelling car. Our accommodations were a small house on a local farm. Simple, but it was more than good enough for us.  After throwing our gear inside and a short brief from our guide we were ready for a night in the tower. Due to our late arrival, the outfitters we got the opportunity to go with, did not have enough towers or bait stations for us to hunt on. We ended up with two guys in one tower, which is not optimal.
After one hour the smell from our walk in to the tower was pretty much gone, so we could expect some movement on the boars, but no. Our double tower was a bust. Too much wind and not enough movement on the animals. Our second post however reported on boars at the spot as he was walking in. After some gentle maneuvering he got up in the tower and started reporting on movement. As far as boar hunting goes, you want the small ones for the meat, and the big males for the trophy’s. We are meat hunters, so our goal is to get the best meat possible. After a couple of families had been to the feeding station, the report came in that a perfect size board was shot.  Clean headshot behind the left ear, as it should be when hunting wild boars. We often sit one hour before we approach the animal. They can often lay still wounded and  launch at you when you approach. The boar was down and we were 1up for the night. To be continued…
